We’re deploying a new feature that makes it simple to restore your WordPress in case something goes wrong in your deployment. It’s called Restore Checkpoints. It’s a bit like Time Machine for WordPress. If something goes wrong on your site, or you deploy something that breaks everything, Restore Checkpoints allows you to restore your site back to its previous, pristine state.
Think of this like being able to save your progress in Super Mario Bros on the original NES. If you’ve put an hour or two of work only to have some punk turtle kill you right before you defeat Bowser.
WordPress design shouldn’t be all or nothing like that. Restore Checkpoints makes it simple to create a restore point and bring your site back to normal again.

You’ll notice Restore Checkpoints in the menu of your My WP Engine Account. Open it up and you’ll see a history of checkpoints to which you can restore your site back. New Restore Checkpoints are created automatically for your site at 3AM each morning.

You can create your own restore checkpoint as well. That way you can set a restore point right before you deploy new changes and have a coding safety net.
Our staging feature already meant you could try out new plugins and code changes without fear of a public failure. Now you can be even bolder with your public site since Restore Checkpoints means you’ve always got a backup of our site and an easy way to return your site to working order if anything happens.
It‘s peace of mind for WordPress – courtesy of WP Engine.
The WP Engine team is in the last stages of testing WordPress 3.1. When testing is completed, we will officially support WordPress 3.1 . The latest version of WordPress is currently available on all WP Engine sites, but not supported as we have not completed a full assessment of WordPress 3.1.
For our testing process, we are testing the 3.1 upgrade with our curated plugins. The list of our curated plugins is available here . We are not able to test for every possible plugin that is used, as there are over 13,000 plugins to choose from. We strongly recommend caution before doing the 3.1 upgrade. Take any steps to do a back up of your site, including saving any customizations made to your site.
We cannot guarantee support or functionality for any plugin that is not curated by us, so please make sure that the plugin you are using is currently supported by WordPress 3.1 . You can view information on any plugin at the Official WordPress Plugins Repository
We will eventually require all WP Engine users to upgrade to 3.1, but we will not force that until we get feedback from the WP Engine Community on how 3.1 works on their site. We will also announce this in advance so you can prepare for it accordingly.
If you have issues with your site during or after the upgrade process, please do not hesitate to contact support:

If you’re reading about us for the first time, WP Engine is a simple but powerful way to run a WordPress powered blog/site that doesn’t require the expertise to manage a web hosting account or install and maintain a WordPress instance. WP Engine looks after the installation, management, security, upgrades, backup and day-to-day running of WordPress leaving you with the ability to focus on what matters to you the most – the content of your blog or site.
While our goal has always been to build something we would use ourselves, we decided from the beginning that we would not do this in a black box. Talking to potential customers from day 1 has been our highest priority. We’re now hosting 25+ early evangelists and have learned a great deal about what various types of people want out of WordPress itself and their hosting provider.
First and foremost is security. Ah the great debate. WordPress and security. We understand that security is an area of dark and deep magic. Many people don’t understand how or why “hacks” occur. Nor should you. We take that responsibility on ourselves and will never pass the blame. We don’t think we will ever need to either.
Speed is equally as important. It’s an addicting trait that neither we nor our users can get enough of it. Forget typical blogs. We run WP Engine like you would run any popular web application. We utilize proxy servers, database caching, content delivery networks, minificaiton, image compression, and every other trick in the book to make sure your site loads as fast as possible.
Worried about your site staying up because you’ve been covered by a popular news blog? We make sure your WordPress powered site takes simultaneous connections in stride. Don’t believe us? We have some amazing customers who previously had this pain point and are now able to sleep better at night because they don’t worry about their site going down. Here is what a few of them have to say about their experience with us:
“It’s really nice to concern ourselves with the content and growth of our blog rather than trying to be my own IT department.” – Jay B Sauceda, Public School
“I self-hosted WordPress for years until I started experiencing crashes every time a post made it to the first page of HackerNews. I switched to WPEngine right before speaking at a major event. Not only did my blog survive the traffic spike, but I’ve doubled the number of subscribers since then and haven’t experienced a single outage yet.” – Ash Maurya
WPEngine customers enjoy the removal of the technical and administrative hassles often associated with running a site knowing that these are being taken care of by passionate experts who are part of the wider WordPress community. A new blog can be created effortlessly on WPEngine with just a few clicks, and an existing blog can easily migrated from WordPress.com or a 3rd party host via our export tools.
