What happens if I exceed my plan limitations? Do you just shut my site down?

If you go over your visits limit, we’ll work with you directly to help you upgrade to a larger hosting plan.Our stance on data transfer and storage is very generous. You shouldn’t ever have to worry about these unless you’re hosting an FTP Server, video streaming server, or using our hardware in some other data-intensive way that we do not support. You can always check exactly how much transfer you’ve used and how many visits you’ve had this month by logging into our customer portal.

Why does WP Engine cost more than a typical “shared hosting” company?

We transfer all your data using WP Engine’s LargeFS solution, which allows us to store effectively unlimited amounts of data for you. LargeFS uses Amazon S3 technology to store as much data as you need, while making use of all of Amazon’s benefits like cost-effectiveness and redundancy.

How do you count “visits”?

Our pricing is based on visits to your site, so it’s important that we make it clear what counts as a visitor so that it makes sense how we bill sites. There are different ways to define a visitor, and depending on which service you’re using, Google Analytics, for example, visitors may be defined and measured differently. We take the number of unique IP addresses seen in a 24-hour period as the number of “visits” to the site during that period. The number of “visits” in a given month is the sum of those daily visits during that month.

How should I stream content like MP3 and Video?

As audio and video become a more important part of marketing a brand online, more and more WordPress installs will stream this content to their visitors. WP Engine supports that! All your media can stream via our LargeFS system, which is designed to deliver audio and video content quickly and efficiently. However, it’s important to note that because LargeFS is so effective for high-bandwidth content, we don’t allow it to be streamed over our CDN.
