Welcome to Plugged In, where we take a look at some of the most popular WordPress plugins in various categories. This week, we look into the best plugins for monetizing your WordPress site. (For more information on WordPress plugins, download our ultimate guide.)

You started your blog as a hobby to share something you love with others. You’re getting more and more readers and have a strong fan base. Why not change your hobby into a career? Monetizing a blog can sound really intimidating and time-intensive, but these plugins make it a breeze.

We have compiled a few of the most popular from the WordPress Plugin Repository. With these, you will be able to start making money soon, and who doesn’t like that?

AdRotate has over 50,000 downloads and it’s clear to see why. You can add ad banners without messing with your code or theme and customize them all on an easy-to-use dashboard. You can, of course, create your own ads using HTML or Javascript, or you can opt for the easy way and pull them from an adserver. You can access your daily, monthly, or yearly stats to make sure the ads are working for you.

The free version gives you the ability to add and manage the ads. If you want email support, avoid adblockers, geotargeting, and more, opt for the premium version.

Google Adsense

If you already using Google AdSense, there is no need to start working with a new service. Just download the Google AdSense plugin and can click on the ads you want instead of inserting them manually. The plugin will look around your site and find the best place to post both ads. You will also be alerted if there are any problems with the ads you’ve placed and solutions will be offered.

Google AdSense has over 100,000 views and is incredibly easy to use. If you are nervous about implementing ads, you can only put them on certain pages to begin with and then add more as you feel more comfortable.

Ad Injection

Ad Injection does exactly what the name says, it injects ads on your site. The plugin has support for A/B testing so you get data on where you should place ads and how many of them to use. Customize where you post ads and whether they follow the content or stay at the top of bottom of the page.

You won’t need to modify your post or theme to get the ads to work. Ad Injection puts them in where they look most natural and where they are most likely to be seen.
