Smart Search AI MCP is a special component that runs as part of WP Engine\u2019s existing Smart Search <\/a>service. When enabled (it is disabled by default and requires user opt-in for security), it exposes your site’s content as callable “tools” for any connected LLM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process is fast and precise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The Query:<\/strong> A user interacts with an external AI application\u2014perhaps a custom customer support chatbot built using a model like Claude.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The Tool Check:<\/strong> The AI model recognizes it needs current, specialized information. It then recognizes it has access to a new “tool” via the MCP, which is your website’s search function.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The Real-Time Search:<\/strong> The AI model sends a standardized search<\/strong> or fetch<\/strong> request to your unique MCP server address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. The Response:<\/strong> The MCP server receives the request, uses the speed and accuracy of our integrated Semantic Search and Vector Database to find the absolute most relevant and recent content on your site, and sends that fresh data back to the LLM.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
