{"id":39576,"date":"2018-06-26T08:30:31","date_gmt":"2018-06-26T13:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/?p=39576"},"modified":"2023-10-25T04:20:17","modified_gmt":"2023-10-25T09:20:17","slug":"once-again-wp-engine-top-place-to-work-millennials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/resources\/once-again-wp-engine-top-place-to-work-millennials\/","title":{"rendered":"MOVING ON UP, WP ENGINE ONCE AGAIN NAMED TOP PLACE TO WORK FOR MILLENNIALS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the second year in a row, WP Engine has been recognized by<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortune<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatplacetowork.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Great Place to Work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as one of the country\u2019s Best Workplaces for Millennials\u2014improving on its ranking from last year and earning the distinction as the only Austin-based company on the list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Millennials are defined as the generation born between 1981 and the mid-1990s. They are the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2018\/04\/11\/millennials-largest-generation-us-labor-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">largest generation in the workforce<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and at WP Engine, they make up nearly 75 percent of the company&#8217;s employees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, WP Engine moved up with its <a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/best-workplaces-millennials\/wp-engine-61\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">61 ranking<\/a> on the annual survey\u2014<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/blog\/wp-engine-named-best-place-work-millennials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">up from 79 last year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014out of the 100 workplaces that made the list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To determine the rankings, Great Place To Work polled more than 430,000 respondents from hundreds of pre-certified companies. Employees from each organization were randomly selected to participate in the survey, regardless of their personal background or position within the company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Great Place to Work analyzed each organization\u2019s performance in several areas, including: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Key Great Place to Work Metrics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: how positively millennials rated their organizations based on more than 50 metrics that define great workplaces, including managers&#8217; competence, respect and fairness in the workplace, opportunities for meaningful work, how effectively executives lead the organization and whether the company offers everyone an opportunity to innovate and contribute to the organization\u2019s success. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Comparison to Other Generations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: millennials&#8217; survey results were compared to their colleagues&#8217; to ensure they had as positive an experience as people of other generations. Specifically, Great Place to Work looked at an index of factors where millennials often lag behind their peers, such as access to meaningful work, fair pay and plans for a future with their organizations. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Consistent Experience within a Diverse Group<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Great Place to Work also analyzed demographic patterns to ensure the companies included were creating great, diverse workplaces.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39579\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39579\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-39579 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WPEngineAllHandsFun4_caphoto26689.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"639\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WPEngineAllHandsFun4_caphoto26689.jpg 960w, https:\/\/wpengine.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WPEngineAllHandsFun4_caphoto26689-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wpengine.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WPEngineAllHandsFun4_caphoto26689-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39579\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">All Hands events are held twice a year at WP Engine and offer employees the chance to meet up outside of work and get to know each other in a more social setting.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For many millennial employees at WP Engine, being recognized as a great place to work is a direct reflection of the culture and values that are stressed at the company and help make it an accepting, fair and honest place to work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I couldn&#8217;t help but feel intimidated when I first joined WP Engine,\u201d said Manager of Sales Development at WP Engine, Dana Kleen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt seemed as if all talent and brilliance gravitated here and I didn&#8217;t think I could possibly stand out. Wrong! As a result, \u00a0my satisfaction in my role increases too. I can already tell that I\u2019ve benefited greatly from working here.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was hired at WP Engine because I have a background in social media and journalism,\u201d said Jonathan McNamara, a Digital Content Producer at WP Engine. \u201cVery early on, I was given the opportunity to decide what else I would like to do outside of my social media duties, which was videography. Today, I\u2019m the full-time videographer here, and a lot of that is because the managers I\u2019ve had have recognized where my passions are and they\u2019ve given me the chance to learn things where I didn\u2019t necessarily have traditional training.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere\u2019s no comparison between this job and any of the previous jobs I\u2019ve had,&#8221; he added. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I greatly appreciate that I have been able to work in a place where my managers are equipped to provide me with opportunities to learn and grow\u2014that&#8217;s not something I&#8217;ve had before.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39581\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39581\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-39581\" src=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WPEngine_Movember-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39581\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WP Engine employees are encouraged to give back to the community through various philanthropic initiatives\u2014here a group of employees shows off mustaches grown for Movember, an annual event in November to raise awareness of men&#8217;s health issues.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;You cannot attract millennial talent with just awesome perks and great benefits anymore,&#8221; said WP Engine Recruiter Aiste\u00a0Juozaponyte.\u00a0 &#8220;What millennials seek out now is the ability to grow within the organization, to learn new skills and challenge themselves by doing work that gives them a sense of purpose and meaning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we offer at WP Engine is a place for employees to attain and exceed their goals, to grow professionally and personally and to learn from the most talented individuals every single day,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It\u2019s the place where the best get better and that&#8217;s why I don\u2019t just go to work, I speed to work!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to those efforts, WP Engine actively works to retain millennial talent in a number of other ways\u2014among the more popular initiatives the company undertakes are its bi-annual <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/blog\/wp-engine-all-hands-2017-in-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All-Hands events<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where employees meet outside of work to engage, collaborate and get to know one another in a more social setting.
