{"id":4702,"date":"2014-02-11T13:18:57","date_gmt":"2014-02-11T19:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/?p=4702"},"modified":"2019-08-19T17:38:45","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T22:38:45","slug":"5-types-thought-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/resources\/5-types-thought-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Examples of Thought Leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p><em>What is Thought leadership?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thought leadership is content that provides solutions to your audience\u2019s problems, <strong>without mentioning your company or products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmeermanscott.com\/books\/the-new-rules-of-marketing-and-pr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Meerman Scott<\/a>, explains:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Instead of just directly selling something, a great site, blog, or video series tells the world that you are smart, that you understand the market very well, and that you might be a person or organization that would be valuable to do business with.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thought leadership can be presented in a variety of forms, but the point is to present solutions (whether it&#8217;s useful guidance, cutting edge research, educational materials) in the most engaging and informative format.<\/p>\n<h3>5 Examples of Thought Leadership for You to Consider<\/h3>\n<p>1. <strong>eBooks: <\/strong>eBooks are usually PDF-formatted documents that solves a problem for one of your buyer personas.<\/p>\n<p>Example\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.velocitypartners.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/B2B-Marketing-Manifesto-Velocity-Partners.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New B2B Marketing Manifesto<\/a> by Velocity or <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/resources\/build-with-wordpress-a-total-cost-of-ownership-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Build with WordPress: A Total Cost of Ownership Analysis<\/a> by WP Engine.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Email Newsletters: <\/strong>These are often newsletters that focus on solving buyers\u2019 pain points.<\/p>\n<p>Example\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/lf159.infusionsoft.com\/app\/hostedEmail\/466847\/4c193495f4b35d44\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Australian Writers\u2019 Centre Newsletter<\/a>. While it is not a pure thought leadership newsletter, The Australian Writers\u2019 Centre always includes timely news, thoughtful writing advice, grammar tips, and other useful solutions for aspiring writers.<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>White Papers:<\/strong>\u00a0White papers argue a specific position, or provide a solution to a problem. \u201cA good white paper is written for a business audience, defines a problem, and offers a solution, but it does not pitch a particular product or company.\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmeermanscott.com\/books\/the-new-rules-of-marketing-and-pr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New Rules of Marketing &amp; PR<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Example\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/resource-library\/whitepapers\/multi-factor-authentication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Multi-factor Authentication: Current Usage and Trends<\/a> by Safenet. Note, you will have to register to read it, which is a feature typical of white papers.<\/p>\n<p>Nonethteless, there are white papers that bridge the gap from providing agnostic solutions, to offering a a deeper informational dive and a branded solution, like this:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/resources\/getting-started-with-the-genesis-framework-and-wp-engine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Getting Started with the Genesis Framework and WP Engine<\/a><\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>Webinars:<\/strong>\u00a0Webinars take their name from traditional seminars.
