This article will guide you in which changes are possible as self-serve options in the User Portal, and how to best perform plan changes.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When downgrading or cancelling services, it\u2019s important for us to hear from you so we can improve all of our features. Platform, hosting, and product extension feedback can be submitted anytime using the <strong>Product feedback<\/strong> link in the footer of the User Portal. (Websites using eCommerce, LMS, or membership plugins are unable to self-serve Premium upgrades. You will see downgrade options on the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/plans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Modify plan<\/a> page in the User Portal if your account is able to self-serve a downgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Essential plans that do not see the self-serve option and all other plan types, you can use the Request downgrade option on the billing page mentioned above, or contact your account manager, or use the sales chat widget in the bottom right corner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wpengine.com<\/a> website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review the following requirements before attempting to downgrade your plan:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can only downgrade an account to a plan within the <strong>same plan group<\/strong>*.<br>The different plan groups are:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Default <strong>Managed WordPress<\/strong> plans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>eCommerce<\/strong> plans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Headless<\/strong> plans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Agency<\/strong> plans<br><br>*<em>Switching an account to a different plan group would require creating a new account, migrating your sites to the new account, and then canceling the old account.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You cannot downgrade if your usage limits for <strong>bandwidth<\/strong> and <strong>visits<\/strong> over the last 30 days exceed the limits for your target downgrade plan. You can see limits for some plan types on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plans page<\/a>. You can also see your current usage on the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/usage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">usage page<\/a> of the User Portal to get an idea of whether you are within the limits. You will see a message when you attempt to downgrade if you are not within the limits. If you are above your limits for either, you can try to reduce them to get your 30 day totals below the limit for your target downgrade plan. Learn more about <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/count-visits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">billable visits<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/bandwidth-cause-effects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bandwidth<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You cannot downgrade if the <strong>number of sites<\/strong>* that you have is higher than the sites limit for your target downgrade plan. You can remove sites or purchase additional sites on the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Products<\/a> page to complete the downgrade.<br>*<em>A site includes Production, Staging, and Development environments.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You cannot downgrade if your <strong>storage<\/strong> limit exceeds the limit of your target downgrade plan. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/bandwidth-cause-effects\/#Reduce_Storage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reduce your storage<\/a> or purchase additional storage on the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Products<\/a> page to complete the downgrade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lite<\/strong> and <strong>Startup<\/strong> plans do not support <strong>WordPress multisite<\/strong>, so you cannot downgrade to these plans while you are using a site with <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/what-is-wordpress-multisite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">multisite<\/a> enabled. To downgrade to these plans you can either delete your multisite websites or convert them to default single site websites.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Migrations and Server Changes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When upgrading\/downgrading <strong>between shared<\/strong> plan types (Startup, Professional, Growth, and Scale), no server changes are performed. This means no migration and no DNS updates are needed. Upgrades will be performed immediately upon request, granting you access to the new plan\u2019s features. To ensure a downgrade request can be performed quickly, ensure your plan is within the bounds of the new plan\u2019s limits before requesting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When upgrading\/downgrading <strong>between shared and Premium<\/strong> plan types a migration will need to be performed for all environments on the plan. Migrations can be scheduled and performed at your preferred time, our Support team will help facilitate this migration process. Migrations do incur downtime, depending on the size of the site. Domains will require a DNS update if pointed using A records, and domains using CNAME records will not require a DNS update.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When upgrading\/downgrading <strong>between two Premium<\/strong> plans, a migration may be necessary depending on the requested change resulting in a DNS update, however most changes can be done in place. You will be provided more information during the upgrade\/downgrade process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/servers\/\">To learn more about changing servers or to view our data centers, see our full guide here. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<a name=\"Change_Plan_Recurrence\"><\/a>\n\n<a name=\"Plan_recurrence_or_other_downgrades\"><\/a>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plan Recurrence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are trying to change your billing cycle from <strong>Monthly<\/strong> to <strong>Annual<\/strong> billing, you may see a banner at the top of your billing page with a self-serve option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"color:#32373c;background-color:#00d1b2\" class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-notice gb-font-size-18 gb-block-notice\" data-id=\"3b0649\"><div class=\"gb-notice-title\" style=\"color:#fff\"><p>Note<\/p><\/div><div class=\"gb-notice-text\" style=\"border-color:#00d1b2\">\n<p>Switching from <strong>Annual<\/strong> to <strong>Monthly<\/strong> billing is more complex. If you want to switch from <strong>Annual<\/strong> to <strong>Monthly<\/strong> billing or if you don\u2019t see the self-serve banner, <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contact support<\/a> and ask the support team to create a ticket for the billing team to request switching the plan recurrence option for your account.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Billing<\/strong> in the main left sidebar, and look for banner at the top of the page.<br><img loading=\"lazy\" Support<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/environments\/\">Prod\/Stage\/Dev environments<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/resources\/what-is-a-cdn-how-do-they-work\/\">CDN<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/get-started-genesis-studiopress-theme\/\">Genesis Framework<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/genesis-pro\/\">StudioPress themes<\/a>, <a href=\"\/support\/ssl\/\">SSL certificates<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/configuring-largefs-store-transfer-unlimited-data\/\">LargeFS<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/advanced-network\/\">advanced network<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The product extensions available for purchase are: Multisite, Additional Sites, Additional Storage, Smart Plugin Manager (SPM), Page Speed Boost (PSB), GeoTarget, Application Performance, Smart Search, Site Monitoring, and Genesis Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to help you run your business as easily as possible, we offer the ability to self-serve the purchase of many product extensions through the User Portal. Included and purchasable product extensions vary by plan type, detailed below. As a reminder: <em>Shared<\/em> plans include Lite, Startup, Professional, Growth, and Scale. <em>Premium<\/em> plans refer to plans hosted on a dedicated server (P1, P2, etc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Additional Sites<\/strong>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shared plans can purchase more sites as-needed, up to a maximum from the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Products<\/a> page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Premium plans do not have a site limit. If you believe you are having issues and need more server resources for sites, please reach out to your account manager for assistance with server resizing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Additional Storage<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Additional storage can be purchased from the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Products<\/a> page in the User Portal. <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/bandwidth-cause-effects\/#Add_Additional_Storage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read more about storage increments here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/what-is-wordpress-multisite\/\">Multisite<\/a><\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Multisite cannot be purchased for Lite or Startup plans. When removing this product extension from your plan, the feature will automatically be disabled on your behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remove Application Performance product extension<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Application Performance is installed and managed by our team on the server. When removing this product extension from your plan, the feature will automatically be disabled on your behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remove Global Edge Security product extension<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On initial setup, Global Edge Security required you to change DNS records with your external DNS host. Before disabling this feature be sure to remove the GES records from your DNS host and replace them with alternative DNS information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend repointing to the <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/advanced-network\/\">advanced network<\/a>, which is a free service similar to GES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also point DNS to WP Engine using <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/point-domain\/\">standard DNS practices<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remove GeoTarget product extension<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/geotarget\/\">GeoTarget<\/a> is a feature that is enabled on our platform manually, in conjunction with the GeoTarget WordPress plugin. To remove GeoTarget, we first suggest <a href=\"https:\/\/wpengine.com\/support\/restore\/\">taking backups<\/a> of your environments in the User Portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First, deactivate and remove the GeoTarget plugin from your WordPress Admin dashboard for each WordPress environment with the plugin installed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Second, reach out to our Support team via 24\/7 live chat in your <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/\">User Portal<\/a>&nbsp;and request to disable GeoTarget for any environments it was initially enabled on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Last, let our <a href=\"https:\/\/my.wpengine.com\/support\/\">Support<\/a> team know you wish to remove GeoTarget from your plan and billing.
