Frederick National Laboratory — Brand Identity & Website Redesign

Back Pocket Media guided Frederick National Laboratory through a six-month discovery and design effort to unify a complex identity spanning government, private contracts, and high-stakes biomedical research. Engaging 22 stakeholder groups—from leadership to scientists—we defined brand positioning, information architecture, UX/UI design, content mapping, taxonomy, and WCAG AA accessibility. We developed a detailed style guide, pattern library, and technical handoff documentation before collaborating with a Drupal dev team. Four months later, the new site launched, delivering a visually stunning, user-friendly, accessible platform that highlights the science and supports future branding across digital and print.

The client applauded the result:

“The website… is not just visually stunning, but it also functions seamlessly, providing an exceptional user experience.”

This project exemplifies BPM’s ability to distill complexity, create consensus, and build compelling digital experiences that clarify mission and engage diverse audiences.

Brown Mamas — Community Hub & E‑Commerce Empowerment

Back Pocket Media redesigned and rebuilt Brown Mamas—a grassroots, Black-women-led social enterprise—on WordPress to support its multifaceted mission: community-building, content sharing, event management, sponsorships, and e‑commerce. Facing a complex audience mix—from mothers in need to national brands and Fortune 500 partners—the project began with a full discovery phase: cataloging programs, events, podcasts, healing circles, courses, merch, and a separate annual event site. We overhauled the brand hierarchy, taxonomy, and information architecture to create a scalable backbone that supports growth and new initiatives.

The result is a dynamic, self-sustaining digital home where Brown Mamas can publish resources, promote events, manage sponsorships, share stories, and sell products—all through a sophisticated, user-friendly WordPress backend that staff can manage independently. Notable features include a powerful e-commerce system, event integration, SEO optimization, and a site architecture designed for complexity and evolution.

Client feedback: “I am very happy with all that we were able to achieve. And in nine months? Truly impressive.”
