In this ongoing blog series, we speak with WP Engine employees around the globe to learn more about their roles, what they love about the cities they work in, and what they like most about working at WP Engine.
In this interview, we speak with Senior Account Manager & Team Lead Account Management, EMEA, Kwabena Asiedu, who’s been with the company for more than two years at WP Engine’s London office.
Going back to the start, how did you discover WP Engine?
I initially discovered WP Engine through LinkedIn. From there, I was approached by the head recruiter in EMEA. Throughout the whole interview process, I found that the company’s core values resonated with me.
Can you explain your current role at WP Engine?
I started at WP Engine in an entry-level sales role, and within a fairly short period of time, I progressed to SMB Account Manager, then to Senior Account Manager, and now Account Management Team Lead, EMEA. In this position, I’m responsible for ensuring the Account Management team and myself exceed our target whilst coaching and conducting training with new reps.
What is your favorite thing about working at WP Engine?
It sounds quite cliché but the people are what makes WP Engine unique. I can say I have made lifelong friends here.
Secondly, WP Engine truly rewards hard work coupled with results no matter your background.
Finally, being highly driven, I work best in an environment which is exciting, challenging, and meaningful at the same time. The people in the company and the values which we stand for give me great purpose.
How do you contribute to the success of WP Engine?
As one of the most tenured reps in EMEA, I enjoy giving back by conducting training (Sandler Sales Methodology) with our new reps and mentoring our Sales Development Reps (SDRs).
In addition to this, I am dedicated to helping our existing customers grow their business financially or operationally by educating and adopting our products. I also love getting involved with sporting social events such as our tennis club, which so far, only has three members, including myself LOL! Additionally, I take part in our 5 aside football team. We have a talented, competitive team.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Working in a fast-paced environment there is so much to achieve and on occasion, it can be challenging to fit it all in a day.
What is a good lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Never stop learning and developing. Being at the forefront, businesses look to us to guide and advise them on the latest industry trends.
What’s your favorite sports team?
So many to choose from but if I had to pick one, the England Rugby team. In 2019, I had the opportunity to follow the team at the World Cup in Japan. I travelled to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kobe. It was an amazing experience.
Which one of WP Engine’s values speaks to you the most?
Do the Right Thing! For me it has so much to do with one’s conscience.
I believe if you Do The Right Thing by the customer, by the organisation, and then finally by yourself it will show in your interactions, your actions, and decisions.
Have you always lived in London? If not, what brought you here?
Not particularly… I was born in Dakar, Senegal, my parents are originally from Ghana, and I grew up in South East Kent by the coast. From there I decided to go study in Scotland and after graduation, I was lucky enough to land my first graduate sales role with a global Japanese technology organisation in Central London.
What are some of your favorite things about working and living in London?
I love how diverse and multicultural the city is with so many different activities and cuisines to try out.
What are some hobbies you enjoy outside of work?
I’m happiest when I’m with my friends and family. So I spend most of my time with friends, which usually involves being outside and playing sports of some sort, either football, tennis, touch rugby, etc…. Growing up by the coast near the seaside gives me an excuse to get out of the city and enjoy some quiet time.
Favorite TV show of all time?
This is a hard one…. So many!! Don’t judge me LOL! But I do enjoy the television chat show, Question Time.
Current addiction?
A good flat white.
