WP Engine’s mission to power confidence online is fueled by the expertise and dedication of more than 1,000 global employees.

Every individual plays a key role in our continued growth, whether they’re supporting our customers by troubleshooting technical challenges, using their engineering and development talents to innovate across our platform and products, or building lasting relationships with our customers by learning about and supporting their goals.

Our Meet the Experts series shines a light on the people behind the platform, exploring their careers, their lives, and the ways they make an impact at WP Engine.

In this feature, we’re excited to introduce Anna Rogert, a Key Account Executive based in Lincoln, Nebraska, about 60 miles from WP Engine’s Omaha office, who has been with the company since 2020.

Say hello to Anna!

Meet Anna Rogert, a sales professional with more than two decades of customer service experience.

Anna joined WP Engine in 2020 after hearing great things about the culture and career growth opportunities from some of her former colleagues who had already joined the team.

“I’ve always enjoyed switching up industries between roles, and Flywheel and WP Engine offered something very different from my previous companies,” Anna says.

“Plus, WordPress itself was clearly on a strong growth trajectory at the time, so I knew I’d be joining a thriving, future-focused industry.”

Outside of work, Anna loves to travel, go golfing with her husband, and relax with her guilty pleasure: reality TV. Some of her favorite shows include Real Housewives, Vanderpump Rules, and Summer House.

She’s also a true crime enthusiast, which makes her favorite work-related book, Never Split the Difference—a sales book written by an FBI hostage negotiator—all the more fitting.

Anna’s career journey

Anna’s path at WP Engine has had a few turns. She started as a Sales Development Representative before becoming an Account Manager and eventually taking on her current role.

Now, she is a Key Account Executive on WP Engine’s Agency Acquisition team, where she partners with agencies to bring client sites onto the WP Engine platform and establish long-lasting relationships. She credits her initial roles with providing insight into both the business challenges and technical challenges facing agencies, making her a more effective partner to the people she works with every day.

“Because of my background, I often know more about servers and hosting infrastructure than many of the agencies I work with,” Anna explains.

“My team’s mission is simple: remove the tedious, time-consuming tasks from an agency’s plate so they can focus on what drives revenue—winning and growing new business.”

A strong proponent of leading with empathy, Anna believes that understanding the issues facing agencies is what allows her to build trust with agency partners, and that trust is vital as she works with them to identify the right solutions for each partner and help tailor those solutions to support their goals.

Words of wisdom: Embrace adaptability and build trust

Throughout her career, Anna has learned to embrace adaptability as one of the most valuable skills in sales.

“Being comfortable with pivoting and workshopping outreach is a skill that applies to any role,” she says.

“Knowing when to adjust, and doing so quickly when something isn’t working, has been a critical part of my success.”

When asked for the best advice she’s received in her career, her answer was surprising. She states it’s important to “embrace awkward silences.”

She explains that, especially in sales conversations, silence often creates the space for deeper honesty and better understanding.

“Never assume anything. Ask questions; lots of them,” she says.

“Trust is built when you’re solving problems, listening closely, and showing you care. Even if your solution is exactly what a customer or prospect needs, trust has to come first.”

Trust-building is also the reason one of WP Engine’s core values feels more important to Anna than all the rest.

“I’ve been in some form of customer service for over 20 years now. By embracing ‘Customer Inspired,’ you put customers first. If you can do that, sales will always come when the time is right for the customer,” she says.

“Truly caring about their needs is what will lead to longevity and growth for both parties.”

Powered by people

For Anna, the people are what make WP Engine an exceptional place to work.

“My favorite part of working at WP Engine has been the people I have worked with along the way. I’m even still in contact with people who have left the company,” she says.

“There is such a strong spirit of collaboration throughout the company, and I really appreciate that as I’m a huge proponent of collaboration, both within a team and cross-functionally.”
