Starts With Us

https://startswith.us/

Starts With Us, a pivotal initiative addressing the prevalent political and cultural divisions in the United States, empowers and connects millions of Americans frustrated with extreme polarization. The imperative nature of such a movement is underscored by the fact that over 87% of Americans express frustration with toxic polarization and its detrimental impacts on relationships and society.

The website serves as a dynamic hub for the movement, offering a platform to share inspiring stories of everyday Americans bridging divides through applying Curiosity, Compassion, and Courage (the 3C's). The site boasts a bold aesthetic, deliberately avoiding partisan design tropes, to engage visitors from all backgrounds in the brand narrative. Once engaged, visitors are invited to explore relatable stories, video series, and a curated feed of resources and tools to empower them to take meaningful action against polarization.

Climate Disaster Project

https://climatedisasterproject.com/

A

The Climate Disaster Project (CDP) - based at the University of Victoria and led by faculty and students at post-secondary institutions around the world - is an international teaching newsroom that works with climate disaster survivors to share and investigate their stories. Their goal is to build empathy and solidarity around the experience of climate change. Because story creates community, and community creates hope.

Loop was able to take the initiative’s original bare bones website and reimagine it into a robust stories archive with custom post types that will help them collect and showcase the stories of climate disaster survivors from around the world. This new framework included user-friendly ways to engage with stories such as filtering & sharing, as well as a dedicated form for survivors to submit their own stories to the CDP team.

Transforming Faces

https://transformingfaces.org/

Transforming Faces is working to transform care for children born with cleft lip & palate overseas. Their comprehensive approach to care ranges from parent support, to nutritional care for infants, to safe surgeries and holistic post-surgical care, and their multidisciplinary work is appropriately timed for each individual child’s long-term rehabilitation.

Transforming Faces had outgrown their previous website, which had amassed numerous one-off pages and a disorganized post structure that had not expanded effectively with them over time. The Loop team was able to streamline the navigation of the new site to smoothly connect all aspects of Transforming Faces’ work, and to better communicate their global reach. Their impact stories, video storytelling and podcast are featured prominently alongside dedicated pages to each country in which they work, giving visitors to the site every opportunity to engage and continue learning about the organization and its work.

Double Up Food Bucks

https://doubleupfoodbucks.org/

Double Up Food Bucks is a game-changing initiative that systemically addresses food insecurity at the local level. Started in Detroit, Michigan, the program matches fruit and vegetable purchases dollar for dollar, up to $20 a day for those who rely on SNAP food assistance. Double Up improves access to fresh food and supports local agriculture and farmers’ markets, making it a win-win.

The Loop team collaborated with Double Up Michigan to create a beautiful and engaging digital platform for the program and a national portal and microsite infrastructure to support Double Up as it expands across the country. We spent time engaging with these people digitally and in person, spending time at local grocery stores and farmers markets in Michigan to watch the program in action. These experiences helped uncover opportunities to clarify how the program is communicated online and provide a tailored experience that preemptively answers questions and concerns upfront.
