Meet the Experts: Matheus Andrade
In our Meet the Experts series, we talk with the people working behind the scenes every day to power confidence online.
WP Engine’s team is composed of problem solvers who detangle complex technology to help our customers succeed online. It takes hundreds of individuals to build the actual tools that improve efficiency and provide the expert consultative services our customers rely on.
Our Meet the Experts series pulls back the curtain to introduce some of the people using their talents to support the success of WP Engine and our customers. In this edition, you’ll get acquainted with Matheus Andrade, a Technical Account Manager (TAM) based in the Irish countryside. Originally trained as a civil engineer, Matheus has traded blueprints for code scripts, using his analytical mind to provide the expert advice our customers need to succeed.

Say hello to Matheus!
Matheus is a Technical Account Manager who thrives on learning new systems to solve the unsolvable. Today, he lives a quiet life in rural Ireland, where he balances his tech career with a love of the outdoors.
“Living isolated in the countryside, I could be called a hermit,” he jokes. “I sometimes get social anxiety when attending crowded events. However, I’m great with people and enjoy building relationships with people from all teams.”
When he isn’t troubleshooting complex technical issues, Matheus is likely hiking or camping with his wife and dogs, enjoying the lake access in his backyard. He is also a fan of the strategy game Civilization. His penchant for learning new systems also shows up in how he spends his free time. Currently, he’s building a personal platform to automate his investing.

Matheus’s career journey
Matheus’s path to WP Engine was paved by curiosity. After a decade in civil engineering, he began working in tech support. It was then that he discovered the power of APIs and automation, which sparked a permanent career shift.
“Learning how an API works and how much power that gives you in automating stuff is what pushed me into the tech industry,” Matheus explains. “Today I can’t see myself doing anything else.”
At WP Engine, Matheus has evolved from a support expert into a full technical consultant. This places him directly at the intersection of products and people.
“Success in my role is translated by customer technical success on the platform,” he says.
“When I create tools that help the team to help their own customers, or mentor customers on solutions they can use to achieve their business goals, I know I’m making an impact.”
For Matheus, going above and beyond is just part of the job. His team is often tasked with pushing the limits of what’s possible for customers on our platform, bridging technical complexity and customer business knowledge to strengthen partnerships and drive growth.
“TAMs are often seen as the ‘out-of-scope’ team. Pushing the boundaries helps us learn more about our platform’s limitations, find opportunities for new products, and set realistic expectations for customers about what can currently be done or custom setups they’ll need to develop. A lot of customers see TAMs as their own in-house tech expert, so we often go the extra mile to live up to that expectation.”
Words of wisdom: Build doors through relationships
When asked what lesson Matheus would share with his younger self, he talked not about specific technical skills, but relationships. He says a willingness to step out of the shadows and connect with people has been critical to his professional growth.
“Experience is not everything. Find ways of learning fast that work for you, because new products and technologies are launched all the time, but people are often your most valuable resource. I used to be the type of person who focused on quietly doing his own job, but now I really see the benefits of relating to and working with other people,” he says.
“Build relationships. You never know who you will need in the future. Opening those doors will take you far.”
Powered by people
Matheus’s journey from civil engineering to technical account management highlights the growth opportunities at WP Engine. By combining his analytical background with a passion for development and learning new skills, he now helps our customers build more resilient digital experiences every day.
“The culture in the company is great,” Matheus says. “Everyone is open to chat and help each other, no matter the role you are in.”
